As often as possible, we rescue horses, ponies, or donkeys directly from a slaughter buyer's feedlot or outbid the slaughter buyer at an auction to save them from the horrible end of slaughter. We try to choose animals with maximum adoptability and charge a minimal fee for their adoption. At this point, we are not a 501c3 organization.
In 2011, we were able to rescue 6 horses, 4 ponies, and one donkey. We provided vet care and rehabilitation to those who needed it and were able to place 9 of them into loving homes!
A slaughter buyer had Hannah and her friend Munchkin, below, on his lot awaiting shipment to Canada. Hannah was rescued March 2011 and adopted to Trish Thomas at Flat Irons Equestrian Center in Broomfield.

Munchkin, rescued March 2011 and adopted to Leah and Mike Noonan of Cheyenne, WY. Munchkin has suffered mistreament in her life and Leah and Mike are excited to help her on her journey to trusting people.

"King", rescued September 2011 and adopted to Tonya Buhrman of Nunn, CO. We outbid the kill buyer for him at a local kill auction. King was discarded by the dude string he served for many years when he failed to keep his weight on just pasture. He is very spunky and sweet guy who has plenty of yeas left!
"Eho" rescued from a slaughter lot April 2011. Eho was likely used for roping practice, and probably had a future of more of the same. Adopted by Mike Hogestad of Florissant, CO who only expects him to eat! Thank for giving him a home!
Pard, an old gelding I bought at Centennial Livestock Auction. Pictured in the yard on sale day and after 60 days, floated teeth and countless bags of equine senior. He weighed 700 lbs at rescue and was spunky and a little ornery even in his very emaciated condition. He is a kind, gentle old soul who has been adopted by Lauren and Ella Drury!
Louis, a 3 year old andalusian/quarter horse stallion adopted by Randy and Sandi Floyd. I missed outbidding the kill buyer for Louis, so I had to buy him directly from the kill buyer. Louis had a bad case of ringworm and needed a few pounds and some hoof care He is starting his career as a riding horse and doing great!
